El Don![]() 6/27/2002 (Quetzalli's turns four months!!) I'm writing this from Salinas, we came to visit. Well, also to fix some stuff about our future wedding. We decided to get marry through the Catholic Church. I never been a devote believer of the church. For me, is just another institution that promotes the existing hierarchies that exist between poor and rich, between indigenous dark and European light. I'm getting marry through the church because its important to Alejandra and to our families. I want the community to acknowledge our sacred promise. Those are the ones who really matter; family and community. I don't care what the pinche church or the pinche government have to say about who I love and how serious I am about it. I know I may get some objection from those with less respect for Catholic spirituality, but o well, it happens. I do things cuz I feel like its right. I respect people's faith. I believe faith and words are powerful. Rituals and religious have power and can move energies. I also believe that we all have the same "God," which can also be understood as creating force/energy and that we are all connected to it. All religions are, in my opinion, different understandings of such creating force. No religion is more valid than other. So is totally wrong when someone tries to convert another to one's form of spirituality. Well, let's get to the picture on top. That's Don Ignacio. No, he is no mafia Don, although you better watch out or you'll get slap for any disrespect. Don Ignacio is Alejandra's grandpa. I've been working in touching up this old passport picture. It like 20 something years old. So I'm blowing it up for Alejandra's parents. He is at a home for elderly with Alzheimer. There's a big-o story about how Don Ignacio is here and not in Mexico, but I'll save that for latter, if I'm not stopped by Alejandra (the story is kind of private). Well people, take care. peace. |
