i almost drown today 12.26.02
i feel: canzado /tired pero contento
i need: to eat and sleep
i want: bailar y bailar
tomorrow i will: no se, i want to write. voy a ir al mercado
i been listening to: corridos from a guy that sounds drunk (on purpose)
the revolving water kept pulling me to its center. i was going down the river. i let go. it was taking me to long to get to the waterfalls walking in the river. so i let go of the rocks and jumped to the center. the current was strong and it dragged me fast. i kept the sole of my feet in front of me, in case i encounter a rock or something. i saw ahead of me this boulder to stop myself. i did not know what was ahead. it could be rocks. when i got to the rock, i put my feet to it, so as to stop. but the current was too strong and i just went over the boulder and landed in a remolino/a whirlpool. i didn't know that that's what it was when i landed in it. i did came up after a small while. i tried to swim to the nearest rock, but the damn thing kept sucking me to its center. i stretched my left arm as much as i could, and barely took hold of a neighboring rock. i could keep my head above water before that.
i got scared. i thought that if i didn't make it to a rock, i was surely going to drown. i even had time to think "this is how it is, this is how it feels to be sucked into a whirlpool. this is how those who drown feel." i'm not sure if i really thought this, or maybe i just felt the tought. a feeling that's also a thought, i don't know if it happens to others. the thing is that i was able to grab onto a rock, but i could pull my body to it cuz the current kept sucking me it. plus i was wearing pants and tennis-shoes. finally i made it to a side, and went to the waterfalls. i quickly forgot the susto. the waterfalls are just damn amazing. i even went behind the biggest one. there was so much water that it was hard to see through. i thought that the water would hurt, but it didn't. it was just strong.
through my river journey, i say the biggest spider i have ever seen in my life. about 7 to 8 inches in diameter. neta. i wish i had the camera with me so that i can show you guys. i also saw some crab. i thought those where only in the sea, not in sweet water. but no fish. i wonder why.
this place, chorros del baral, (chorros means...hmmm.... streams?, i'm not sure). the place is kind of far from paved road. we (alejandra, mario, miguel, lupita y yo) went down the barranca on some manmade stone stairs. it was a pain going up those stairs. i have climbed the temples of teotihuacan, this was just as tough. we also had to cross a hanging bridge. it was long and some of the boards were broken, which made me wonder about the reliability of the ones i was stepping on. i grabbed tight to the thick metal wires.
we took some tacos de frijoles, queso fresco, and chiles jalapeņos. we ate on a big boulder on the side of the river. actually, the boulder was on the river. there were some huge red wasps buzzing around. i hadn't seen that kind. i have seen lost of stuff i hadn't seen before, not even in mexicali. people here in los reyes michoacan mx, eat camote de cerro; a root like things that you boild and then eat it. it tasted kind of like potatoe. we also found four alacranes here in the house. they were actually on the roof, where people keep tinacos filled with water to supply the house. water is only available every other day.
(it feel funny writing in english, since i speak spanish the whole day. i also think in spanish. but i want to share. que se le va hacer)
tonight ale and me are going out. a bailar/mover el bote, to this place call la hacienda. aunque estoy bien canzado from the whole adventure.
i'll take a nap.
peace.
